The Devaswom minister had said that it is not correct to ban women from entering the Sabarimala temple. He had also said the Public Service Commission (PSC) will be allowed to make appointments to the Devaswom Board.

Rajasekharan said the minister was not supposed to make such statements without discussing the matter with concerned persons. He also asked whether the comment on the entry of women applied to other religions as well.

Slamming the minister's decision to allow PSC to make appointments to the Devaswom Board, Rajasekharan asked how PSC can ascertain whether a candidate is following rituals.

Former Devaswom Minister VS Sivakumar too opposed Surendran's statement and said the age-old rituals and customs should not be changed and this must be considered in the appointment of the head priest (Tanthri) of Sabarimala.
