RSS toes CPM line to promote organic farming in Kerala

RSS follows CPM in organic farming in Kerala

After the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) and the Congress, it is now the turn of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) to promote organic farming in Kerala.

The RSS state leadership meet of the RSS, held at Kozhikode passed a resolution to go green and promote organic ways of vegetable farming in Kerala.
The youth in the state must support organic farming, conservation of water bodies, sacred groves, it exhorted.

"Resolution demands implementation of the plans more efficiently and seeks the support of RSS activists and society in general," said RSS (Prantha Karyavah) state secretary P Gopalankutty Master said.

Though the organisation calls for green politics, the state leader evaded a specific answer to the questions on the controversial Athirappally hydroelectric project. "We are not against development projects that do not hamper the society," he said.

The CPM has been promoting organic farming in a big way for the past two years and the party could attract various sections of the society through the campaign. Thousands of acres of fallow land was brought under vegetable farming as part of the campaign, and the party opened organic vegetable outlets too.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) had also ventured into the promotion of organic farming with its chief VM Sudheeran touring the entire state spreading its message. It also marked the first all-Kerala campaign of Sudheeran after he assumed office as the KPCC president. The Congress also has schemes to boost organic farming.
