Aam Aadmi Party takes up fight for 'right to beard' in Kerala

It seems, the fight for the right to grow facial hairs, as part of religious faith, is picking up in Kerala.

 

A day after a police officer approached the High Court seeking permission to flaunt a beard while in uniform, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a public protest in Calicut to protect the right.

The APP organised a stir in front of Calicut University at Thenjippalam in Malappuram district to safeguard the right of a student to sport beard in class!

 

The party held a sit-in protest in front of the university demanding justice for a student of Physical Education Department of the campus who was allegedly dismissed from the class for sporting a beard.

 

Mohammed Hilal, a fourth semester student of Physical Education Department and soft ball player, faced action after he grew beard as part of his faith. The AAP demanded that the student be allowed to grow beard as any restrictions on that would be a denial of his religious freedom. The AAP protest was inaugurated by party state convener C R Neelakandan.

 

The Physical Education Department officials, however, stated that the students of are bound to abide by a dress code and are not allowed to grow beard.
