Reservation for upper castes also

Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya has announced that the government has repaid ₹ 13.27 crores to 13,750 Brahmin and Vaishya students who are economically backward.

In the assembly on Friday, February 10, he said that there are poor people in the upper castes also and the government is willing to extend help to such people.

In the assembly the Minister announced that this facility is available to all Brahmin and Vaishya students whose total income of family is less than ₹ 1.50 lakhs annually.

In the zero hour Ravi Subramanya, opposition leader urged the government to extend Vidyashree Scheme to all the students who hail from economically backward castes. Responding to this Anjaneya said that this can be possible only after the amendment in the constitution.

Another BJP leader Govinda Karajola intervened in the discussion and clarified the minister saying that the will of the government is necessary and not amendment in order to extend the scheme.

“Please try to study your department properly. Brahmins and Vaishyas were ruling the society once upon a time. But now the situation has completely changed. Many upper caste people are living in poverty. Constitution will not object or prevent you if you extend your help to financially backward classes” – Govinda Karajjola.
