Ready to queue BJP leader caught with 20 lakh in new currency notes

JVR Arun, BJP’s youth wing secretary from Salem, recently posted on his Facebook wall - “For the progress of my country, I am ready to stand in the queue,”. He has been actively campaigning for PM Modi's demonetisation drive.

In a wonderful irony, the same leader has been arrested by the Tamil Nadu police with several bundles of new currency notes, worth ₹20.55 lakh on Saturday.

Sources say that there were 926 notes of ₹2,000 denomination, 1530 of ₹100 and 1000 of ₹50.

When enquired about the details behind the money, he could not explain the source of the cash to the police. The police have seized the money and deposited the same in the district treasury.

The IT Department is now probing the role of bank officials who sourced the ₹2000 currency notes.

Responding to this, a BJP spokesperson said the party has served Arun a showcause notice and has decided to remove him from the party if he is found guilty. However, BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan said the party has already removed Arun from the organisational responsibilities.
