- The siblings, both minor, were found hanging in their house in a span of 52 days
- Autopsy reports revealed that both girls were sexually abused
- Police officer who was probing the case was removed following allegations of police apathy
Days after siblings were found hanging in their house, under suspicious circumstances, another girl has committed suicide in Walayar. The 20-year-old girl had consumed poison.
The autopsy report revealed that the girl was subjected to sexual assault. Relatives allege that her neighbour assaulted her on March 1. The relatives who found the man fleeing the spot chased him and thrashed him.
The girl consumed poison after few days and later died at the hospital. Police have taken the neighbour into custody.
This is the second case of rape reported from the area. The post morterm report of siblings, who were found dead in their house in a span of 52 days, had revealed that the children were sexually abused. Police took four persons, including the relative of the girls into custody after allegations that the authorities had failed to take action.
Though post-mortem report of the elder girl, who died in January had mentioned that she had undergone sexual abuse, police did not investigate further. The mother of the girls had informed the police that her cousin had sexually abused the girl. The younger girl too had told the police that she found two persons coming out of the house on the day her sister was found hanging.
However, it is alleged that neither the police nor the Child Welfare Authority took the matter seriously. After 52 days, even the younger girl was found hanging in the house. The autopsy report proved that she too had undergone sexual harassment constantly.
Following allegations against police, Kerala Government removed the sub-inspector of Walayar police station who was probing the case.
