The Ministry of Home Affairs has selected a senior Telangana officer to be part of the security cover at the Olympic Games that kick off on August 5 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

IPS officer Masthipuram Ramesh Reddy from Telangana will be among the 250 police officers from across the globe, who will be monitoring security at the mega sporting event.

Reddy is currently an SP in Grey Hounds and is in-charge of the Reorganisation Cell in the office of Director General of Police Anurag Sharma.

Besides Reddy, an officer from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), New Delhi is the only officer nominated by the MHA for the event.

“It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and a great international exposure. I am extremely thankful to my DGP for nominating me,” Reddy told New Indian Express.

Ramesh Reddy had participated in the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) memorial 5K run in New York in May this year. Earlier in 2011, he had run a 42 km full marathon in Athens.

Brazil back in June had announced that during the Olympics, the International Police Cooperation Centre(IPCC) will operate with around 250 police from 55 countries and regions as well as members of Interpol, Ameripol and Europol and the service will be up and running 24 hours a day between August 1 and September 19.
