Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) leader S Sharma has sworn-in as the pro-tem speaker of 14th Kerala Assembly on Friday. The oath-taking ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan in the morning.

A senior legislator, Sharma was the Fisheries Minister in V S Achuthanandan cabinet and Electricity and Cooperation Minister in 10th Assembly. This is his sixth term as an MLA.
As the pro-tem speaker, Sharma will formally start the proceedings of the Assembly. His responsibilities will be to swear-in the newly elected MLA's on 2 June and to facilitate the election of the speaker on 3 June.
The LDF has selected CPM leader P Sreeramakrishnan for the post of the speaker and V Sasi of CPI the deputy speaker.
