Prez gives a nod to sack vice-chancellor of Puducherry university

Pres asks MHRD to sack vice-chancellor of Pondy university

The Ministry of  Human Resource Development (MHRD) is all set to sack Puducherry University’s vice chancellor after it got President Pranab Mukherjee's nod for plagiarism and misrepresentation of facts when she was applying for the post.

According to the Times of India, Chandra Krishnamurthy, who joined the institution in 2013, will be issued an order from the ministry soon. It was in 2014 when she was first charged with plagiarism. Followed by which the MHRD ministry placed her on a compulsory wait and issued a showcase notice.

Earlier this year her plea challenging the compulsory wait was dismissed by the Supreme Court. Finally, in May she submitted her resignation which the ministry refused to accept. Puducherry University Teachers' Association (Puta) president Pramod Singh told TOI that since she is being dismissed from her post, she will not be entitled to perks and terminal benefits. “This is a case of dismissal which means she can neither join other institutions nor get her perks and terminal benefits extended,” he added.

Puta has further demanded the recovery of salaries and other perks paid to her during her tenure as her appointment itself was illegal. As reported in TOI, besides charging her for plagiarism, the ministry also plans to file a case against her on financial irregularities totalling at least seven crores in offering e-learning and online courses by the directorate of distance education.
