Post Jayalalithaa death liquor sales boom in Karnataka

The Tamilians who kind of worship Jayalalitha are still not able to digest the news of their Amma's death and are taking liquor to forget the pain. This in turn has boosted the sales at liquor shops.

Liquor shops at Srirampuram, Gandhinagar,  Vivek Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Sevanagar, UIsoor, Binney Pet and in Kolar Gold Field (KGF), have witnessed a jump in sales as many were reportedly buying crates of beer and alcohol bottles to overcome the grief.

"Jayalalithaa’s followers are sad, and they want to forget the pain and hence they are drinking," said, Suresh from Lucky Wine Stores at KGF.

Considering the fact that KGF is bordering Tamil Nadu, the Tamil population here follows Tamil Nadu personalities. Be it Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan, or politicians like Jayalalitha, there a large number of fans.

The scene is no different at Srirampuram, Ulsoor and other places in Bengaluru where Jayalalithaa supporters were seen paying their last respects to the portrait of Jayalalithaa. Many followers at Srirampuram were high on alcohol too. Selvakumar, a follower, says he is very sad that Amma is no more.

"We cannot digest this news and hence we are drinking to forget the pain," said Selvakumar.

This sorrow of sympathisers has boosted liquor sales. "The sale has doubled. The diehard followers of Jayalalitha were in tears," said staff at SL Bar at Ulsoor.
