12 poachers including techies arrested for hunting Sambar deer on New Year's Eve

A group of 12 people including two techies and two other professional shooters were arrested by officials of Karnataka forest department for hunting two Sambar deer to celebrate New Year's Eve in the Bhadra Tiger Reserve (BTR) of Chikkamagaluru district. 

 

According to the officials, the hunted to have fun, meat and 'trophy' and supposedly, the trophy is antlers of the deer, and it is the shooter who gets this trophy. 

 

The poachers were travelling in three vehicles and the were intercepted by the authority in the Nettichowka forest range in the early hours of Sunday. According to reports, the arrested men arrived on Saturday hunted one male and one female Sambar deer, skinned and ate the meat of the female deer while kept the male deer alive. 

 

These men have been booked under Wildlife (Conservation) Act and were produced before JMFC court, and are now, in judicial custody for 15 days period. The officials confirmed that the carcass of the hunted deer had been sent for post-mortem. 

 

The professional shooters Rafiq Ahmed and Mohammed Sameer took the initiative in shooting the animals with their licenced rifles reports confirmed.
