Fighting crows convince parents to pretend son is dead

 

Merely days after a crow made headlines in Karnataka for seating on the CM’s car, the black bird has made it to the headlines again, this time over a very peculiar custom. Poor crow!

 

Nagra, the son of a Transport Department employee, saw two crows fighting while he was studying on the terrace of his house. He shooed the quarrelling birds away and ran down to tell his parents.

 

To child’s surprise, his parents panicked. They were appparently sure that this (the fighting crows) was a bad omen they sought the aid of an astrologer to interpret of the omen.

 

The astrologer worsened their fear by predicting serious trouble in their future. “Soon your family members will start fighting and break the integrity of your family structure,” he warned them.

 

The worried bus conductor and his wife asked the ‘learned man’ for salvation from the omen and so he presented them with a solution. A bizarre solution

 

He asked them to spread a false rumour amongst relatives that their son had passed away.

 

Their blind belief in the astrologer and his baseless prediction convinced them to call all their relatives, including the child’s grandmother, informing them of their child’s demise.

 

The astrologer’s ill advice, however, backfired.

 

Struck by grief over her grandson’s alleged demise the grandmother immediately fell ill and is now bed ridden.

 

“The astrologer predicted that witnessing crows quarrelling is a bad omen. I wanted to perform the rituals to avoid the afflictions that were about to befall our family. I was not granted leave to perform the ritual so my wife called her mother and told her this false news, which made her fall ill. Now everything is okay,” Nagara’s father said.

 

Meanwhile, the family’s relatives arrived at their house where they all learnt the truth and partook in a feast that was arranged, as per the direction of the astrologer.
