Poll rivalry refuses to die down in Mollywood

Mollywood actors Salimkumar Ganeshkumar lock horns

The political rivalry between actor-turned-politician Ganesh Kumar, the Kerala legislator from Pathanapuram and his fellow Mollywood actor Salim Kumar has taken a new turn. The MLA alleged that Salim Kumar has not handed over his resignation from Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) as he had announced during the elections and criticised the latter for playing drama.

Salim Kumar's resignation was a media stunt during the elections, Ganeshkumar, who is also the secretary of AMMA, ridiculed. Salim Kumar is yet to hand over his resignation letter to the Association and has received benefits from AMMA until two days back, he alleged.

Last month, National Award winning actor Salim Kumar announced his resignation from AMMA in protest against actor Mohanlal and director Priyadarshan attending an election campaign at Pathanapuram for the Left Front candidate Ganesh Kumar.  Actors Jagadeesh and Bheeman Raghu representing the UDF and the BJP respectively were the main opponents of Ganesh Kumar.  Salim Kumar pointed out that the presence of Mohanlal, who is also an AMMA office bearer, went against the oral direction given by the association against seeking votes for a candidate where its members contested each other.

In reply to the charges levelled against him, Salim Kumar said on Wednesday that he had sent his resignation letter to Mammootty, who is AMMA's current General Secretary and the benefits Ganesh Kumar is talking about is the insurance amount that an actor is entitled to get from AMMA.
