Mob assaults youth for abusive WhatsApp messages on CM Siddaramaiah

 

Raibag residents handed Suresh Poojari, 30, to the police after thrashing him. The villagers accused Suresh of sending abusive messages about the late Rakesh Siddaramaiah on WhatApp over the previous two days.

 

Advocate Raju Shiraganve has filed a case with the police in this regard and has pressed them to take action against the accused.

 

In a related case, Karnataka police have formed teams to nab two suspects from Raichur who are also accused of spreading abusive messages about Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

 

The absconding youths have been identified as Naveen Kumar, 25, of Santhekallur village and Sharanabasava, 25, of Lingasuguru in Raichur.

 

Naveen, the main accused, initially send the abusive messages on a WhatsApp group upon learning of the CM's son's death.

 

Sharanabasava is accused of joining the chat and adding his own unsavoury remarks to the group.

 

Gadyappa Gowda, 24, one of the members of the group, filed a complaint against Naveen and Sharanabasava with the police in Raichur.

 

Both the accused are absconding from July 31. The police have said that they have received information on their movements and will soon arrest the pair.

 

Both have been booked under section 153(a) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language), Section 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and Section 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
