Popular Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly has joined the list of celebrities seeking justice for teenager Mishel Shaji Varghese, who was found dead in Kochi last week.

Mishel, an 18-year-old chartered accountancy student, left her hostel in Kacheripady to attend the evening mass on March 5 and was found dead in the Kochi lake near Thoppumpady the following day.

In a heartfelt message, Nivin has asked everyone to support the family's fight for justice.

“Mishel Shaji Varghese, A young soul departs shockingly..Crushing the hopes and dreams of a family..

"As the family cries for an investigation, lets support their fight for justice.. Our small voices might help and make a world of difference.. Wake up authorities, None of Gods children should die in vain #justiceformishel (sic),” Nivin posted on his Facebook account.

Actors Indrajith Sukumaran and Kunchacko Boban have also demanded a fair probe in the case to bring out the truth.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday stated that the Crime Branch has taken charge of the case. Meanwhile, unconfirmed TV reports claim that one person has now been taken into custody.

CCTV footage suggests that two youth had followed her on a bike on the day she went missing.

The police had initially stated that the death was suicide. Refusing to believe their version of events, Mishel’s family had demanded a thorough probe into the death. Several politicians and high-profile personalities went on to back the family, and there has been much uproar on social media platforms as well.
