Malur police station haunted

Three months after Circle Inspector Raghavendra allegedly shot himself dead in his office at the Malur police station in Kolar district, the station has entered the news again. The Bangalore Mirror on January 11 reported that policemen have been reluctant to work at the station because of more untoward incidents since Raghavendra’s suicide.

In November, two policemen posted at the station — Ashok (52) and Venkatachalapathi (35) — died when a truck hit the two-wheeler they were riding on. Some days after this incident, two other policemen attached to the station were injured in separate accidents.

The police station, which was inaugurated in June last year, has jurisdiction over more than 50 villages. The Bangalore Mirror quoted a source from the station as saying that there were no problems at the old premises. After Raghavendra’s death, the inspector who was assigned additional charge of the station reportedly relocated to the old police station premises.

In a bid to reassure the personnel, senior officials organised homas at the new police station, including the room where Raghavendra committed suicide. A senior official declared that there were no problems at the new station now and all vacancies had been filled.
