News 18 senior reporter Sanil Philip, who was under treatment after suffering serious injuries in a road accident last week, died early morning on Wednesday. He was 33.

Philip was critically injured after he met with an accident on 20 June at his hometown Mundakkayam in Kottayam. The autorickshaw in which he was travelling turned turtle inflicting a spinal injury. He was soon rushed to Indo- American Hospital, Vaikom and was in a critical condition since then.

Philip was working as a senior reporter with News 18 at Kochi. Started his career with Jaihind Tv, he later moved to Reporter, a Malayalam television news channel. With a keen eye for details and a passion for seeking the hidden story of an otherwise ordinary subject, the young reporter is credited with some good pieces of investigative journalism. He had exposed a drug mafia network that used school children of rural areas in Kottayam as drug peddlers.

His body will be kept at Kottayam Press Club for the public to pay homage on Wednesday. Funeral will take place at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, Painganapally, Mundakkayam on Thursday.
