Drug haul: Noose for three Malayalees in  Kuwait

Malayalee drug peddlers face noose in Kuwait

Three Malayalees and a Sri Lankan woman, who are facing noose in connection with a drug peddling case in Kuwait, lost their hopes of acquittal after an appeal court on Monday rejected their plea against capital punishment awarded by the trial court. Having denied the plea, they will now have to approach the Supreme Court to reduce the penalty.

The convicts are identified as Manjottuchalil Faisal, 33, a native of Malappuram, Mustafa Shahul Hameed, 41, of Palakkad and Aboobacker Siddique, 21, from Kasargod. A 41-year-old Sri Lankan woman is also facing noose in the case.

The Keralites are convicted in a heroin haul worth Rs 4 crore  at an airport in Kuwait. The cache of drug was seized from one of the convict which led to the arrest of others. Police seized drugs stocked for sale from their residence in Kuwait .

A criminal court bench had on 7 March found the accused guilty of possessing and selling drugs in the country. Faisal is the first accused while Hameed and Siddique were made second and third accused.

The accused can now approach the Kuwait Supreme Court and seek to commute the capital punishment to life imprisonment.
