A three-storey textile shop caught fire in Sweetmeat Street popularly called SM Street in Kozhikode in Kerala on February 22 and gutted at least 15 nearby shops. More than 10 fire tenders are trying to douse the flames.

As per reports, the fire initially broke at the Modern Textiles located near Radha Theatre in the popular Mittayitheruvu commercial hub, and it soon spread to the nearby shops. Though there is no confirmed report, but it has been speculated that explosion of a generator’s gas cylinder caused the fire.
SM Street is a commercial area of Kozhikode and the damage caused by the fire is yet to be estimated.
