Kottiyoor rape case: DNA test confirms priest as father of minor's child

Kottiyoor rape DNA test confirms fatherhood of priest

A DNA test result has confirmed that the Catholic priest who was arrested for raping and impregnating a 16-year-old, is the biological father of the baby delivered by the girl. The test was conducted at a lab in Thiruvananthapuram to verify the allegation of rape against the priest.
 

The blood samples of the priest, the minor and the newborn were analysed and it was confirmed that the minor girl and priest were the biological parents.

The incident came to light after the girl delivered the child at a private hospital in Kannur on February 7. At first, the victim said that it was her own father who committed the crime. On further interrogation, the girl's father revealed the name of the priest.

Investigations revealed that, at the direction of the priest, the newborn was shifted to an orphanage. The entire sordid affair had the involvement of nine more persons, including several nuns and the Child Welfare Committee. The police have so far arrested 10 persons, including nuns and another priest, in the case.
