Kottiyoor case nine arrested

Kerala police arrested nine persons, including the mother and close relatives in a case related to the death of a ten-year-old girl. The girl was found hanging at her house on January 15.

Post-mortem report confirmed that the girl was severely and repeatedly abused even three days before her death. There were 22 injuries on her body, including her private parts.

The incident throws light to yet another case of police laxity. It is alleged that the police refused to take action though the post-mortem report reached them just a day after the death of the girl. Kollam Rural SP admitted that there had been lapses on the part of the police. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan admitted in Assembly that there were failures on the part of police in investigating the case.

Police had already registered a case against the father of the girl for sexually abusing the child. However, it is suspected that the case is fabricated.

The parents are separated, and the child was living with her mother. However, she is reluctant to cooperate with the investigation.

The girl was found hanging from the window rail in her house. Police also found a suicide note, from the house. The letter says that the girl is committing suicide owing to brawl between her parents. It will be subjected to forensic examination as the child is too young to write it. Forensic experts will check whether the handwriting in the note matches with that of the girl.
