Kochi Metro first phase to be inaugurated in April

The first phase of Kochi Metro, the fastest metro project in the country, will be inaugurated in April. The 13 km stretch from Aluva to Palarivattom will be opened this year. 
 

The first phase of the project was finished within a time of three years and 10 months, and this is a national record.  It took about six years to complete the first 10 km stretch of Chennai Metro. Usually, 6-7 km stretch is inaugurated in the first phase, and this is for the first time that 13 km stretch is being opened. 
 

The exact date of the inauguration will be fixed after getting a safety nod from Railway safety commissioner, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) principal director E Sreedharan said. 
 

Kochi is also the first tier-II city to get sanction for metro project. Though this project faced a lot of hurdles in the initial stage, there was no looking back after DMRC took charge of it.
