Kochi Corporation signs pact to procure e waste

Kochi has finally woken up to the problem of the ever-increasing volume of e- waste, one of the biggest environmental issues faced by the city. The city corporation has joined hands with Clean Kerala Company Ltd, a state-run agency under the Department of Local Self-Government, to collect and dispose of e-waste generated in the city in a scientific manner.

If you are ready to wait for two months, you can sell all your electrical and electronic waste at the e-market campaign. The corporation will procure waste at ₹ 5 per kg. All kinds of electronic waste ranging from laptops, personal computers, fridge, tube lights and mobile phones can be sold at the market.

If you want to get rid of the hazardous waste at the earliest, you can either drop an email to ewastecampaign@gmail.com or contact the company at 9497432197. A company representative will collect the waste from your doorstep. In case your e-waste weighs more than one tonne you have to email to cleankeralacompany@gmail.com

"Our officials will directly come to your houses and collect the waste within seven days after getting your request," Clean Kerala Company managing director Kabeer B Haroon said.

The company would then hand over the waste to Earth Sense Recycle Pvt Ltd, a e-waste recycler based in Hyderabad.
