Kids staff suffer as KG franchisee shuts centre

Parents of children enrolled at a Kindergarten centre in Sanjay Nagar in Bengaluru filed a complaint with police on January 2 as the centre has not opened for 20 days. Teaching and nonteaching staff of the TreeHouse playgroup claim they have not been paid for 10 months.

The centre is run by the TreeHouse group, which has around 18 branches in the city. Fifty-three children are enrolled at the centre; the management reportedly collected ₹ 40,000 as fees from students. The school had originally closed on December 13 for Christmas break and announced it would reopen on January 2.

Some nonteaching staff said the owner of the school premises had locked the centre since the payment of water and electricity bills were also pending. “We have not received salary since the past few months. When we asked the managing director, he told that he had invested a huge amount somewhere and was facing losses. However, he had assured that he’ll settle the salary soon. Now, they are assuring that they are going to open the school on January 9,” said Smita, a teacher.
