Kerala 'Tirupati' temple with 4000-year-old idol up for sale

A temple in Kerala with a 4000-year-old idol, similar to that of the deity in found in the Tirupati Balaji Temple of Andhra Pradesh, has been put up for sale.


The family, which owns the temple located in Thachangad in Palakkad district, put up advertisements in local Malayalam dailies on June 26 looking for buyers.


Tirupati Balaji temple situated in the hill town of Tirumala in Andhra Pradesh is one of the richest shrines in India. Lord Sri Venkateswara, also known as Balaji and Govinda, is the presiding deity

 

According to a Deccan Chronicle report, the family that owns the temple at presents wants to turn it into a "Kerala Tirupatisthan" by selling it to genuine buyers.

 

"The temple with a 4000-year-old idol is situated on the banks of river Bharathapuzha in one acre. The temple in the future will become a popular pilgrim centre. Persons who are interested to take over the temple affairs or buy it," the newspaper ad read.

 

The Palakkad-based reportedly wants the future buyers to turn it into a popular "Tirupati" temple of Kerala.
