Kerala Sports Minister EP Jayarajan has said that it is "good" that Anju Bobby George resigned as president of Kerala Sports Council.

"Nobody asked her to quit", the Minister added in response to the news of her resignation.

In an emotional press conference, Anju had said that the controversies and allegations of corruption against her pained her a lot.

"I thought sports was above religion and politics. But that was not the case. After assuming office in the council, I learned many things. I found irregularities in many files. Problems started pouring in after that. My mail was hacked and reports against me started coming up in the media," Anju said.

She also demanded a thorough inquiry into the corruption in the sports body.

Jayarajan, however, said the allegations against Anju were raised by the media (and not by the government).

Referring to the Sports Lottery introduced during the previous Left government, Anju said that it was the "scam of the century" in the sports sector.

"These are not my individual issues; these are of the public. Media should bring out the truth," she pleaded.

It may be recalled that Anju had complained that the Sports Minister behaved rudely with her during her first official meeting with him. The minister called her corrupt and threatened to throw her out of the council, she complained.

Almost immediately after that, CPM leader and the sports council's former president, TP Dasan, went public alleging corruption in the council.
