Kerala schoolboys gangrape 10-year-old girl

Kerala police on Friday arrested four school students for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl. 

The incident occurred at Thrikovilvattathy in Kottiyam on 23 May. The girl was abducted and assaulted by the teenagers near a field as she was returning from a visit to her grandmother's home.  They threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone. 

Though the terrified girl found herself unable to yell out loud for help, a passing toddy tapper happened to hear feeble cries from the field and stepped in to investigate. On spotting him, the teens fled, abandoning the girl. She managed to get home, but in her shock, did not mention the incident to her family.

The matter came to light after the toddy tapper spoke about the incident to a tea stall owner, who then mentioned it to the girl's mother. The mother lodged a complaint with the police who immediately arrested the students. 

Three of the accused are in Class 10 while one of them is in 11th class. All of them are residents of Thrikovvilvattam Vettilathazham, the police said.
