After delicious dishes and designer dresses, the prisoners of Kerala jail are now planning to enter into an entirely different venture, toy making. Those serving their terms in three Central Prisons will make toys for children with autism.

Child Development Centre, which was formed for to facilitate the development of differently-abled children, will fix the designs and types of toys based on scientific studies to ensure that they will be helpful in the development of children. The prisoners will make the models out of wood.
Kerala jails are already producing and marketing wooden furniture and the leftover material from these centres will be utilised for toy making. Women prisoners are already engaged in making of dolls.
"We are also planning to venture into new areas like manufacturing of rubber shoes. Raw materials will be procured fro open market," Jail DGP R Sreelekha said.
