Kerala-open-defecation-free-November-Thomas-Isaac

In a bid to clean up God's own country, state Finance minister Thomas Isaac, today, vowed to work towards making Kerala an open defecation-free state by November this year.

The deadline to accomplish this feat is November 1, which is also the day when the state of Kerala was formed.

"We will be declaring Kerala an open defecation-free state on November 1 and for that all homes in Kerala which do not have a toilet will be provided one with the local self-government (bodies) stepping in for that," said Issac.

The World Bank will be supporting the Government of India's Swachh Bharat Mission through its $1.5 billion programme.

The Modi government launched the programme in 2014 with an aim to improve sanitation conditions in the country and put an end to open defecation in India by October 2, 2019.
