Science has proven that the body's natural ability to heal itself significantly enhances when the body and mind are relaxed. Many private hospitals in Kerala have included musical therapy as mainstream medical practice. Now, for the first time, a government hospital in Kerala has launched daily musical concerts to benefit patients, their relatives and public.

The programme titled 'Santhwana Sangeetham' is organised by Punalur taluk hospital management and Punalur municipal authorities and the first performance was conducted on Independence Day evening with a violin concert amid curious audience.

Hospital superintendent Dr.Shahirsha, who is credited with giving the hospital a facelift by making it a well-equipped multi-specialty institution from a taluk hospital said the program was inspired by an event that was conducted by the hospital in 2012. The amazing response to they received to the programme encouraged hospital authorities to make musical concerts a daily live show.

This isn't the first time the Punalur taluk hospital is making headlines for good reasons. The hospital holds the lowest caesarian rate in Kerala and is the first government hospital to introduce painless delivery facility.
