Kerala High Court seeks probe details in Kalabhavan Mani's death

The Kerala High Court directed the state government to submit details of the police investigation into the death of actor Kalabhavan Mani. The court gave the directive while considering a petition filed by actor's brother R L V Ramakrishnan, demanding CBI probe in the case. The court also asked the opinion of CBI in this regard. 
 

The petitioner alleges that the police had not conducted a fair and efficient probe in the case. Though the state government had taken all measures to entrust the probe with the CBI, police filed a report before magistrate saying that the actor died of health issues and there was no evidence of homicidal poisoning.

However, report of chemical examiner established that an insecticide chlorpyrifos was found in the viscera of the actor. Methyl alcohol, a highly toxic and volatile poison was also present in his body, the petition said. 
 

Investigating officers deliberately ignored post mortem report which clearly indicated that the death occurred due to poisoning. There was a deliberate attempt from the part of police to ensure that CBI does not take over the investigation, it said.

The petition has listed some failures on the part of Kerala police that probed the case and alleges that the investigating officers were not interested to find out the circumstances under which poison was administered to the actor. It also claims lack of foresight on the part of the police team. 
 

Ramakrishnan has also launched indefinite hunger strike demanding CBI probe.
