VS had sought probe against Nikesh Kumar in fraud case

Kerala Elections 2016 Nikesh Kumar cheating case VS

A letter, purportedly written by Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan to the state police chief TP Senkumar demanding a probe against LDF candidate M V Nikesh Kumar in a cheating case, has surfaced, casting a shadow on the poll prospects of the journo-turned-politician .

In his letter dated 8 March 2016, Achuthanandan sought inquiry against Nikesh Kumar and wife Rani Varghese in a cheating case filed by Lali Joseph, a native of Thodupuzha in Idukki.  An FIR had been registered following a complaint by Joseph. But the CPM leader stated that he came to learn that Nikesh Kumar was using his clout to subvert the probe.

Quoting the complainant, VS says that Nikesh Kumar and his wife had promised to make Joseph the director of Indo Asian News Channel by investing Rs 1.5 crore in their company but cheated her by denying equity shares.

Though the police initiated a probe in the case by registering an FIR, the High Court stayed the investigation upon Nikesh Kumar's petition.

Nikesh Kumar, son of former minister late M V Raghavan, is contesting on LDF ticket from Azhikode constituency in Kannur district. Though he is an independent candidate, the CPM  had decided to give him party symbol, an unusual move that surprised many.

In a huge embarrassment for the CPM, Nikesh Kumar revealed in his affidavit before the Election Commission that he was facing 50 criminal cases.

The latest revelation that Achuthanandan had allegedly sought probe against the former television journalist even after the party decided to field him in Azhikode will put the CPM on the defensive.

Nikesh Kumar is facing a tough fight in Azhikode against Indian Union Muslim League leader and sitting MLA KM Shaji.
