Congress corrects Chandy: It's UDF and LDF fighting it out
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's statement that the direct fight is between the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the BJP in many constituencies in Kerala has kicked up a controversy with top Congress leaders countering his claim. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) is in the third position in constituencies where the BJP is very strong, Chandy had said.
State Congress Chief VM Sudheeran and Congress Working Committee member AK Antony was quick to correct Chandy. Both leaders stated that the fight in Kerala is still between the UDF and the Left Democratic Front (LDF). Dismissing the observations that the BJP has made significant advancement in the state, Sudheeran said that the saffron party will not gain seats in Kerala.
BJP state president Kummanam Rajashekharan said that the Chief Minister's statement shows that he has realised the real strength of the BJP. He also alleged that Chandy was trying to cover up the secret deal between the UDF and the LDF.
CPM Politburo member MA Baby responded sharply to Chandy's statement and said that the Chief Minister was making a bid to weaken the LDF using the BJP. But the strategy will not work, he added.
