An article appeared in the daily compared him to a donkey and called him a demon child. The legislator was attacked by the CPI for his remark against the party and its Ernakulam district secretary P Raju.

Swaraj had, in a Facebook post, criticized Raju and CPI. The post came close on the heels of heated arguments between Raju and CPM Ernakulam secretary P Rajeev. The CPI district secretary had reportedly said that Swaraj had complained of idolization and group politics in the CPM. However, Swaraj said Raju was lying and should be given an award for his 'bravery.'

The CPI mouthpiece published the article after the war of words between the leaders, adding fuel to the strained relationship between the main allies of Left Democratic Front (LDF).

The article also states that Swaraj had criticised VS Achutanandan, the senior leader of CPM, during party state conference. It also says the CPM should identify and sweep out such persons who have crept into the party, or else it will have to face the consequences.
