The decision of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to choose the United Arab Emirates for his maiden foreign trip after assuming office in May this year, raised the expectations of the Malayalee expat community there. In his three-day visit, Vijayan has a hectic schedule, including meetings with rulers there.

Chief Minister called on Sharjah ruler and Member of the Supreme Council Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi on Thursday and invited him to visit Kerala. The Sharjah ruler said he had a very good opinion on Malayalees and accepted the invitation very enthusiastically.  He also expressed his desire to establish a centre to strengthen the cultural exchange between Kerala and Sharjah. He also presented his autobiography to Vijayan.

Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi will be visiting Kerala in September next year.

Pinarayi Vijayan will address a public reception at Dubai on Friday afternoon to wind up his visit. There are unconfirmed reports that he would meet the rulers of Dubai as well.
