Kashmir avalanche victim martyr Sandeep Shetti laid to rest

Soldier Sandeep, who was killed at Gurez Valley in Jammu and Kashmir had died along with 15 army men. His body was buried under the avalanche and after much efforts was found on January 31. The body was sent to his native place after conducting post-mortem at the army hospital in Srinagar.

 

The body was taken to Delhi and was flown to Bengaluru on Tuesday night. It arrived at the HAL airport in an Indian Air Force An-32 aircraft, late on Tuesday. Minister M Krishnappa and Bengaluru (Urban) Deputy Commissioner V Shankar received the body.

 

The body was flown to his hometown Devihalli, where his grieving family was waiting for the last look of their son. The body was kept for public respect on Wednesday, and his last rites were conducted according to Hindu rituals at his native place. Thousands of people gathered to pay their last respects to the soldier.

The only son of Puttaraju and Gangamma of Devihalli, Sandeep had joined Army eight years ago against the wishes of his parents. Sources said that he had visited his village only four times after joining the army.
