Sporting a beard? No promotion: Bengaluru Police

Karnataka cop denied promotion for sporting a beard

Dadapeer, an assistant sub-inspector of Yeshwantpur Police Station, cries foul as his promotion to 'Sub Inspector' post has been pending since the last two years. Apparently his seniors told him that his promotion was denied as the higher officials have issues with his beard.

Dadapeer joined the police service in 1979 as traffic constable and served at various traffic stations across the City attached to Bengaluru division for 23 long years. Later, he was posted to law and order section. Currently, he is serving as an assistant sub-inspector.

He said, according to the rules, after serving for certain years, a policeman is given promotion. But in his case, promotion to sub-inspector's post has been denied.

"I am an assistant sub-inspector cadre now, but I should have made it to the next level 6 months ago. When I inquired about the delay, I was told that due to disciplinary issues, my promotion has been put on hold. I was told that sporting a long beard was an issue.  I have attached various documents to prove that sporting a beard on religious ground should not be seen as stumbling block in giving a promotion," he said.

The cop said he has only two years and three months left in his service and will again take up his case with the Additional Commissioner of Police Administration to get justice.
