Kannur murder hartal in Kerala

The BJP has called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal on Thursday in Kerala to protest the murder of a party worker in the hometown of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The BJP alleged that the CPM was behind the killing and expressed concern over the growing violence in the constituency of Vijayan who is also handling the Home portfolio.

BJP activist Ramith, 29, was hacked to death at Pinaryai in Kannu on Wednesday morning, the second murder in two days in the politically sensitive district.

The murder of the BJP worker is suspected to be in revenge for the killing of K Mohanan, a CPM worker on Monday.

The politically sensitive district of Kannur has been on the boil after clashes between CPM and the BJP after the elections this May. The death toll in political violence in the past four months touched seven with the incident on Wednesday. Numerous party activists from both CPM and BJP suffered serious injuries and many houses damaged in the series of violence.
