Jisha Murder: Neighbour identifies key suspect

Jisha murder: neighbour identifies suspect

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is probing the Jisha murder case has crossed another hurdle with a neighbour of the victim  identifying the key suspect Amiyur Ul Islam in the identification parade held on Monday at Kakkanad in Ernakulam.

The witness, a woman, staying near Jisha's house in an earlier eyewitness account had said that she saw a man running out of the house on the day Dalit law student was found murdered. The neighbour said identified Assamese construction labourer as the man who escaped the scene of murder on 28 April. The police will now be able to confirm that Amiyur Ul Islam was indeed present in Jisha's house when at time of the murder.

Although it was earlier reported that police is likely to bring Jisha's mother Rajeshwari, her sister Deepa and neighbours among others to identify the suspect, only one witness was brought to Kakkanad district court premises where the process was held. It lasted for over an hour.

On Saturday, the Ernakulam chief judicial magistrate court had granted permission to the police to conduct an identification parade under the strict supervision of  Judicial First Class Magistrate Shibu Daniel.

Once the identity is ascertained the police will now seek custody of Islam for further interrogation. The accused will be then taken to various places for evidence collection before the first remand period ends on June 30.

Jisha, a Dalit law student, was brutally raped and murdered at her home near Perumbavoor on April 28.
