AIADMK government’s plan to build a Jayalalithaa memorial seems to hit a dead end. The ruling state government allotted ₹15 crores for this proposed to be constructed near MGR memorial at Marina Beach and the foundation stone laying ceremony is scheduled on Jayalalithaa’s birthday on February 24.

However, the party may not be able to continue with the plan after the Supreme Court’s conviction that put behind the bar in the more than two decades year old disproportionate assets case.

This conviction holds the former chief minister and the main accused in the case guilty of the corruption charges though she was abated due to her sudden demise.

Following the conviction, three PILs have been filed at the Chennai High Court pleading to stop the construction of the proposed memorial. This PIL has been admitted and also a notice has been served to the AIADMK party. It seems the party will have to postpone their plan for the time being.
