Once counted as her favourite, the foster son of Chief minister J Jayalalithaa, V N Sudhakaran was denied permission to visit Amma despite having waited for over an hour at the hospital gates.

According to Times of India, Sudhakaran arrived at Apollo hospital at Greams Road in Chennai at around 5.50pm and waited at the hospital gates for over an hour.

Sudhakaran is the nephew of Sasikalaa, and a co-accused in the disproportionate wealth case. Local reports suggested that Sudhakaran made several calls sitting in his SUV, but after police refused to lift the barricade he left after an hour.

Even Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa Jayakumar had not been allowed to visit her aunt. Jayalalithaa’s relationship with Deepa's father Jayakumar had soured a few years before his death in 1995.

According to The Hindu, Sudhakaran left the hospital after he saw some AIADMK cadres conversing with policemen, following which his supporters requested him to leave.

Earlier on Friday, reports said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also had come to the Apollo hospital to see Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. It was still unclear whether he was allowed in or not.

Jayalalithaa has been undergoing treatments in Apollo Hospitals in Chennai for ‘fever and dehydration’ from September 22. An update posted by the Apollo hospital said that Jayalalithaa needs "a longer stay in hospital" but is "making gradual progress."

The hospital confirmed that the 68-year-old remains on respiratory support and is being treated, including by a UK specialist, for lung problems.
