'Critical care' specialist flown in from UK to examine Jayalalithaa

Amid growing concern over the health of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa, it is being reported that the Apollo Hospitals has flown in a leading 'critical care' specialist from United Kingdom to examine her.

 

IANS reported that British doctor Richard John Beale examined Jayalalitthaa in Apollo Hospitals on Friday. Even as Apollo Hospitals is yet to make an official statement, The Hindu reported that Dr Beale will be giving further consultation over the next couple of days to the team of doctors attending on the Chief Minister.

 

Dr Beale is an internationally renowned specialist and researcher. He is a Consultant Intensivist at the London Bridge Hospital. An intensivist, also known as a critical care physician, is a medical doctor with special training and experience in treating critically ill patients.

 

As per the professional details put up on the website of  London Bridge Hospital, Dr Beale is the Head of Perioperative, Critical Care and Pain Service. He specialises in "Acute lung injury, multiple organ failure,[and] general intensive care."

 

Meanwhile, DMK president M. Karunanidhi has urged the State government to clarify on the health condition of Jayalalithaa and put an end to speculation, and the agony of her party cadres.

Jayalalithaa was admitted into Apollo Hospitals on September 22 for fever and dehydration.
