Jamat E Islami shifts convention venue following terror threat

An anti-ISIS convention planned by Jamaat-e- Islami at Kochi in Kerala was shifted to another venue at Ernakulam on Thursday evening following intelligence warning that terrorists may strike at the gathering.

The intelligence alerted that the terrorists could adopt 'Nice model attack' that shocked France on 15 July 2016 when an Islamic State (ISIS) sympathiser drove a truck into a crowd crushing 80 people to death.

The function was supposed to be held at a building close to Kerala High Court in Kochi. After terror alert from central intelligence agencies, state police directed the organisers to shift the venue and beefed up security measures for the convention.

The programme was organised to counter the ideology of ISIS ideology in the wake of the suspected recruitment to the terror outfit from Kerala. The meeting highlighted religious harmony and peace in the place of hatred and strife. The organisers had also invited experts from different walks of life for the programme. Right-wing activist Rahul Easwar, who was one among the invitee, was dissuaded by police not to attend the meeting.
