IS Activity: Karnataka border on high alert

IS Activity in Border High Alert in Karnataka

As recruitments for the Islamic State (IS) were reported in Kasargod and other border regions of Karnataka, a high alert was declared in Mangaluru, Karwara and other such regions which are susceptible to violence. Security agencies have been asked to keep a strict vigil, said Dr G Parameshwar, State Home Minister.

He added that authorities were taking the reports of some people being inducted into the IS and attending IS brainstorming sessions with a high level of seriousness.

As police officials have found some similarities in the blasts that rocked Mysore court last week and blasts in Kollam and Chittoor, agencies have been asked to be on alert to ensure that terrorist activities are prevented in areas bordering Kasargod and other parts of Karnataka.

The State Internal Security department is in constant touch with the NIA (National Investigation Agency) of the Centre and all relevant information is being exchanged with NIA head, said the Home Minister.

All locations where the national flag will be hoisted by VIPs will be put under the control of the police, and appropriate security arrangements are being made. Besides that, the installation of surveillance cameras in strategic locations of all districts is also under consideration.

All industrial entities situated in Bengaluru, Mysore, Belagavi, Hubballi, Dharwad and elsewhere as well as IT (information technology) entities will have to make security arrangements on their own.

The government recommended heightened security covers for establishments with hundreds of employees.

In addition to other security measures, as usual, the police has banned drones during the celebrations. Anyone found breaching the guidelines will be subjected to an enquiry by the police, who threaten legal action.
