In Kerala techies can come to work on boat

Kerala opened its first waterfront IT campus at Kochi. The 5.5 lakh sq ft building, Jyothirmaya, is at the Infopark campus, Kochi, and is equipped with a boat service.

The building on the 160-acre campus overlooks Kadamrayar river. Those working here can avail boat service to reach the campus. "The campus has its own boat jetty and provides service to 1.5 km from the campus. We have plans to extend the service," Hrishikesh Nair, IT Parks Kerala CEO said.

Set in idyllic settings, the 400, 000 sq ft building has already attracted several companies and as many as 15 companies have acquired space here. The building is all set with parking facility and space for commercial activities like ATM's, banks and food courts. The new venture is expected to provide job to over 4,000 IT professionals.

"The building was planned on the banks of Kadamprayar foreseeing its scope of development. We wanted to include the river in Kerala government's Haritha Keralam scheme. During the construction of the campus, all precautions were taken to maintain the natural beauty and environment," Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in his inaugural speech.

The second phase of the project will be completed by 2022. The campus on the banks of Kadamprayar will have a total buildup area of eight million sq ft and will provide employment to 80, 000 IT professionals, M Sivasankar, IT secretary for the state government said.
