Before embarking on his suicide mission, the teenage soldiers of the Islamic State write a parting letter to their home. Many of the letters never reach their dear ones. Some of those letters were found dumped in an abandoned building in Mosul, Iraq.

The letters are shocking. Not because they are the final letters of the hapless, misguided teens. But because of their crude optimism and belief in paradise where they would be treated with luxuries and virgins in return for their martyrdom!

Reuters brought out the letter purportedly written by Alaa Abd al-Akeedi, aged 15 or 16. The letter, apparently written before he made up his mind to blow himself up for the Islamic State, starts by seeking forgiveness of his family. He took pride in becoming a martyr.  So he urged his parents not to mourn his death, for he was going to die for God.
"Don't be sad and don't wear the black clothes,” It read. “I asked to get married and you did not marry me off. So, by God, I will marry the 72 virgins in paradise," Reuters quoted from the letter.

Akeedi was one of the dozens of school boys picked up by the ISIS to fight the Iraqi forces in Mosul. Many such letters, written by Akeedi’s fellow teen-soldiers, were found strewn on the dusty corridors of an ISIS training centre in Mosul when the Iraqi forces ousted the Islamist terrorist group. A registry with names of 50 teen recruits was also found from the abandoned training facility.

On one of his rare visits to his parents, after he joined ISIS, Akeedi told his father that he wanted to become a martyr. A few months later, the ISIS soldiers informed the family that their child had attained that.
