Hyderabad ISIS bust: Youth had planned a Ramzan attack

 

In a joint operation conducted in the wee hours on Wednesday in the Hyderabad’s Old City area, the National Investigating Agency (NIA) and Hyderabad Police team busted an ISIS module. 

 

 At the tip-off provided by central intelligence agencies, the security forces raided four places in the Old City area and took 11 people into custody. 

 

The NIA is now taking steps to airlift the Hyderabad youth taken into custody.  

 

Some of the suspected sympathisers of ISIS have been identified as Ibrahim Yaser, Farahd, Abdullah and Habib. 

 

The raids had been conducted in Chgndrayana Gutta, Mir Chowk, Hussaini Alam and Talab Katta areas.

 

According to police sources, the accused were hatching a plan to strike in a big way in Hyderabad, probably during the Ramzan festival.  

 

More information is expected from the NIA after interrogation.  

 

Sources say that NIA officials from Karnataka also participated in the well-planned raids.

 

The raid uncovered hidden weapons, explosives' and Rs 15 lakh in cash. Sources say that besides Indian currency, foreign currency had also been found.  Many of the team members maintained contacts with ISIS through the internet.

 

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad police have called for high-alert in and around Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad in the wake of the Istanbul explosion. CISF  and Octopus teams have launched a massive search operation in the area. Turkey-bound flights have been cancelled.
