Hoysala driver's quick thinking saves a life in Bengaluru

Hoysala police patrol driver Yeshwant saved a man's life who attempted to commit suicide by jumping in front of a moving train.

20-year-old Charan, a resident of Chamundi Layout in Vidyaranyapura, was depressed as he did not fare well in his diploma course and so decided to end his life.

He had planned to fling himself in front of the Shivamogga-Bengaluru passenger train which was scheduled to pass by the Jalahalli bridge at 11 am on Monday.

Alert Hoysala patrol police driver Yeshwant who was on rounds in the area happened to witness this incident.

Suspicious about Charan's mannerism, Yeshwant sprang into action and turned on the blaring police siren to attract the train driver's attention.

The driver applied the brakes at a distance of 600 metres which gradually slowed the train's speed. Charan was hit by the train but escaped with minor injuries as the train was moving at a low speed.

The young man is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bengaluru.
