How diabetes saved one MLA from Sasikala’s clutches

With MLAs’ still switching sides between Sasikala and Panneerselvam, SP Shanmuganathan, Srivaikundam MLA made up his mind to ditch Sasikala, even before her plan was materialized.
Soon after Panneerselvam announced his revolt against Sasikala’s desire to be the Chief Minister on February 7, Sasikala held the meeting of 130 MLAs at party headquarters on February 8. The MLAs who attended the meeting were just herded inside three buses, without much information.
They were taken to an undisclosed location. Just when the bus started moving, Shanmuganathan said he was diabetic and wanted to buy medicines and it was an emergency.
He was allowed to get out of the bus to a medical shop. The buses waited for him. Without any choice, he returned to the bus when Sasikala and her supporters were in a hurry to take the MLAs away.
Taking advantage of the situation, Shanmuganathan with his medicines slipped away before boarding the bus. It is not yet known if the crew realized that he was missing but the three buses left without Shanmuganathan.

The MLAs who were taken to the Golden Bay resort in Koovathur on February 8 are not been in touch with anyone even to this day. Most have continued to stay at the resort and are positive about forming the government and are waiting for governor’s invite.
Meanwhile, Shanmuganathan joined the Panneerselvam’s camp along with other leaders Pandian and Maithreyan. Today, 12 MLAs from Sasikala’s camp have joined Panneerselvam.
In fact, that day if not for diabetes, Shanmuganathan would have been still inside the resort.
