Only Christians in Kerala are allowed to sing Carol songs! Recently, a group of youngsters belonging to Hindu and Islam community were allegedly assaulted for being part of a Christmas Carol team, in Kollam.

Kerala police booked Jayakumar, a native of Chadayamangalam following a complaint filed by a group of teenagers, all between 14 to 16 years. The group alleged that the accused along with 10 others assaulted them after he found that the boys belonged to Hindu and Islam community and not Christians.

The incident took place on Friday night. A group of teenagers, members of Yuva Arts Club, were visiting houses singing Christmas Carol. As they reached Jayakumar's house, he asked why non-Christians were singing Carols.

"We went to the house at 83.0 pm and as we finished singing Jayakumar asked which religion we belong to. As all of us were either Hindus or Muslims. He shouted at us saying only Christians should celebrate Christmas and we left the house soon," Abdullah, one of the members of the group said.

As the group entered another house nearby, Jayakumar and some of his relatives barged into the compound and allegedly started beating the youths. The men also tried to the stop the teenagers from going to the hospital.

Following this, youth filed a complaint against Jayakumar and 10 others and police registered a case under Sections 143, 147, 341, 153, 427, 323 of the IPC and Section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act.
